People have said to me “you complain so much about Trump, what exactly do you expect from a President, anyway?” The inference was “for all your bitching…you have no clue what it takes to run a country”. That’s true… I don’t… but here’s what I do know:
Once upon a time, we had leaders who led this country into the future with integrity. We had an America who wasn’t at the mercy of a man who treated us like we were just a part of his personal Reality TV show.
We weren’t disgruntled spectators… we weren’t drones who spouted rhetoric back and forth… we were participants in a continental democracy. It wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t utopian. But it was REAL. It mattered. A 71-year-old man-child president didn’t pout, whine or instigate our culture on a Twitter account daily. Leaders of other nations weren’t degraded in 140 characters for the amusement of getting hollow applause from crowds of low-brow morons on Social Media.
When our leaders spoke… there was eloquence and respect in their tone… their words were not limited to crass 4th-grade playground linguistic skills. Freedom of the Press was not attacked every time someone said something a President didn’t like… racists were not tolerated… not even the ones who were closeted. The goal was to leave this planet in better shape than before they took office. Women were respected. Immigrants were applauded for contributing positively, instead of deported or harassed due to profiling and stigmas based on a very select few. The poor were not penalized for not having been born with a silver spoon in their mouth… they were treated with a measure of dignity. Senior citizens didn’t have to fear having their only sources of income cut. Health care was not decimated to the point where good people were told they weren’t allowed to be given Chemotherapy or other life-saving measures.
I want an America where we stand united again. I want to live in a world where the LBGTQ community is applauded for having the capacity to love others… instead of being demeaned for their freedom to choose whom they share their world with. I want an America where we stand tall and proud again… not one where we have to live in fear of persecution from the 1% that should be using their good fortune to contribute towards tearing down the very walls that Mr. Trump is trying to build.
I want to wake up in a world where I don’t have to fear that the madman who creates dissent, division and wars within our society isn’t the same man that sits behind The Resolute desk in the Oval Office, grasping a Smart Phone connected to a Twitter account.
I want a painfully simple concept to come to pass for our future as American citizens: I want a President who could pass a basic psychological examination, who knows the PR value of silence, eloquence and tempered responses… who understands the full magnitude of his position, and uses it for good… not for the spreading of evil.
Does that answer your question?
