Audio Salvage Podcast: The Buddy Holly Story – 2024 Stereo Remix

2 min read

Project History:

De-mixing and cleaning all the individual tracks for this collection began late last year (2023) for the other various collections featured on the podcast, and continued until June 6, 2024 with the tracks recorded at the Pythian Temple in New York City. Mastering was completed on the morning of June 7th.

A Brief History:

The Buddy Holly Story is the first posthumously released compilation album by Buddy Holly and the Crickets. The album was released on February 28, 1959 by Coral Records less than a month after Holly’s death. The album featured previously released singles by Buddy Holly on both the Brunswick label (with the Crickets) and the Coral label (as a solo artist).  The album became a top twenty hit in the United States and England.

The album was certified Gold in the U.S. in 1969 by the RIAA.

What We’ve Done:

While demixing, cleaning and remixing the various tracks into stereo for release on other projects, we set aside some alternate mixes of the tracks for a later project, the only exceptions being material from the Pythian Temple sessions, which were the last to be (lightly) remixed, several days ago.  While I hadn’t planned on specifically releasing this particular collection, this album was done at the the request of several Holly fans who stated that this record was their very first exposure to his music and artistry. How could I possibly refuse that?
